Occupational Therapy evaluates individuals whose ability to function is impaired or threatened by disease or injury. The focus is to regain the individual’s highest functional level of independence. The procedures include exercises for strengthening, fine motor control, range of motion, neuro-muscular re-education, cognitive exercise, ADL and adaptive training, splinting and application of physical agents to relieve pain. Areas of expertise include:
Neurological rehabilitation (CVA, brain injuries, etc.)
Orthopedic rehabilitation (arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis)
Hand and upper extremity therapy
Worker’s compensation
Job site analysis – ergonomic assessments
Pediatrics – developmental delays
Training in adaptive devices
Cognitive training
Lymphedema rehabilitation

The Barton Memorial Outpatient Occupational Therapy Program offers the only comprehensive
Certified Hand Rehabilitation Program in South Lake Tahoe, CA. With less than 4,000 Certified Hand
Therapists in the United States, Barton Memorial Hospital is fortunate to have one of their own. Our
highly trained Occupational therapists will evaluate and design an individually tailored program for each
patient. The Hand program is designed to achieve optimum hand function following surgical repair or
injury.
Injuries Treated:
Cumulative trauma disorders: carpal tunnel, DeQuervains, and tendonitis
Fractures of the hand and upper extremity
Tendon repairs, transfers, and grafts
Crush and degloving injuries
Nerve injuries, repairs, and entrapments
PNS and CNS disorders affecting upper extremity function
Upper extremity amputations
Arthritis
Burns
Compartment Syndromes
RSD

The Outpatient Hand Rehabilitation Program is currently located in Barton Memorial Hospital. We
currently accept a variety of insurances, workers compensation contracts, direct payment, Medicare, and
Medi-Cal. The Outpatient Hand Rehabilitation program is open Monday-Friday 7:30-6:00pm.
